Untitled villanelle
To have a friend's to play a reckless game.
To read's to risk the Chance of being read.
He calls me, though he knows but half my name.
A pet must work to keep its master tame.
The fight is safer when the bull's been bled.
To have a friend's to play a waiting game.
Two empty roads converge. Is Chance to blame?
Chance is a dance. Who's leader and who's led?
He calls me. And he knows but half my name.
In cool, pale blue there burns the hotter flame.
A poem's caress leaves wounds best left unsaid.
To have a friend's to play a perilous game.
The Human knew his nakedness in shame
And with a leaf to hide him turned and fled.
He calls me. Does he know but half my name?
The gift full given lays the strongest claim.
How can I take, when losing's what I dread?
To be a friend's to play a ruthless game.
You call me and you dare me dare my name.
